As I mentioned here; now that we use Spotify to play music I want to get rid of our CDs. It's done! - and the book shelves looks so much better without them. We didn't part with the CDs completely though; that would be a hard task. We keep a lot of them a filing case like this in the car and the rest are at Åsly, the family holiday home.

How about you; how is your music/CD situation?

All these photos were taken out our kitchen window on Saturday March 5. How can you not love watching the weather when it changes like this within hours?

The March challenge over at NIB (Norwegian interior blogs) is kitchen.


Our kitchen is not our dream kitchen, but it is functional (except for the exhaust fan that does not do much else than make a lot of noise). I am not yet sure how my - or our - dream kitchen would look like, but I think it would involve white cabinet doors, wooden worktops and subway tiles, or maybe Moroccan tiles. That is a whole other story. This is our kitchen, for now.




We only did a few things when we moved in five years ago; tore down the wall between the kitchen and the livingroom, built a bar in the opening and painted the walls. Only recently I changed the knobs and the blinds (before). Yes, the fridge is a perfect place for photos.




An old post about the grinders and all the other stuff in the photo. Brigg's post about the old olive oil can on top of the fridge. When we have the cold or flu and use a lot of Kleenex, we use the can as a portable trash can in the livingroom.




The photo with the blue cup is by Jen Causey. The basket is a souvenir from South Africa. I use it for bread.




One of the best things about our kitchen is the amazing light and sunsets we get during late spring and summer. I absolutely love it. The two photos above where obviously not taken today ;-)

A year ago, almost to the date, I posted this. Yesterday I came across an article in Norwegian Elle Interiør (one of my favorite decorating magazines) from that home. It belongs to Bengt Lagerberg, drummer in the Swedish band The Cardigans, and Emma Persson, an interior stylist and writer. In the article Emma says something that really speaks to me:

I'm not really interested in design classics, especially not when they work as status symbols. If I like a piece of furniture, it may just as well be from IKEA; it doesn't really matter. As I get older, I'm more into things that last - both emotionally and because of quality.

Last year I decorated with holly, this year I bought some of these lovely red things. For me red is the color of Christmas. By the way, does anyone know the name of those things?

Edit: Thank you Christine and Ann-Kathrin for telling me the name for this plant. They are called Ilex, or more specifically Ilex verticillata, and are in fact a type of holly.

Christmas in our home

The December challenge over at NIB (Norwegian interior blogs) is (of course) Christmas decoration.

I have mentioned before that I'm generally not really into decorating with all kinds of knick knacks. I have also mentioned before that I'm not really into Christmas decoration either. We always go home to our parents in Sandnes for Christmas, so that is were all the decoration is happening - which is absolutely lovely.

We have only recently started buying a Christmas tree, mostly because of Sølve's office Christmas dinner at our place. I must admit that I quite like it. Especially the smell of spruce - that's Christmas to me! This year Sølve invited his colleagues to the house at Voss, so we skipped the tree. Side note: I joined Sølve to Voss Thursday night to defrost the house; it was +1°C inside when we got there and -18°C outside. Brrrr!

The only decoration I have so far this year, are the red tea light holders as seen above and here. I bought them for our wedding, and now they are part of our simple Christmas decoration. The photo above is from last year. I loved decorating with holly - plus bowls of clementines and nuts, red placemats and lots of candle light. That's Christmas in our home.

The November challenge over at NIB (Norwegian interior blogs) is livingroom; show your lounge area.


We have a couple of lounging areas in our livingroom; the two chairs by the fire place, where we always sit when we have guests, and the sofa in front of the TV and home cinema system. This is were we hang out in the evenings after work. Especially now when it's pitch dark by 5 pm.



I have already told you about my sofa mission, the hi-fi storage mission and my last rearrangement. We have also made some changes to the photo wall since last year. In general I'm trying to declutter our home. The CDs are my next project...



The home cinema system is not pretty, but oh boy! it's fun. We both love watching movies and dvd box sets, so I'm happy we did this investment. (Here is another shot, with moving pictures on the screen.) Talking about movies; have you seen Kick-Ass yet? So funny!



And finally, a few details from the sofa end of the livingroom - just because ;-) I think I'll do a post later on the images on our walls. As I mentioned here, we bought some new art in New York. I'll show you when we've had them framed.

everyday life after NY

We slept 13 hours last night, trying to sleep off the jet lag after our return from New York Monday morning. It felt so good to sleep in a more or less silent room again; one of the few things I didn't like about NY was all the noise from the air condition, traffic etc. I came to the office late today. To be honest, I don't think I will get much done today, work wise. My head is still on vacation, in the great great city of New York.

Here are some other things on my mind/that I like today:

- this wonderful award from Karianne aka Mammadamen (I will respond to the award soon)
- looking forward to picking up two New York films from the lab on my way home from the office
- the second Seed lamp has arrived
- a colleague brought homemade carrot cake for lunch
- my new comfortable wine red corduroy Uniqlo pants bought in NYC
- reading this after posting this on Flickr (this one is funny too)
- Sølve ordered this soup again for dinner tonight - we both loved it!
- the snow is gone and I don't mind the pouring rain
- Christine's words on photo posting
- J. Crew images on Bonnie's blog - we don't have J. Crew in Norway and I just found out I love it
- Susannah's detox idea

The first snow of the season arrived yesterday, and a lot more came during the night. I'm glad I didn't have to drive anywhere today as traffic was total madness - like it always is with the first snow. The local newspaper reports that there has not been snow this early since 1973. Normally Bergen gets a little bit of snow some time during late November, but in general we don't get a lot of snow at all. Except from last year which was unusually super snowy for a long, long time. On my way to the office I enjoyed seeing the yellow, orange and red autumn leaves covered in snow. Although I'm not quite ready for winter yet, I do look forward to the skiing season.
