Hello, readers. I wanted to write a short post in regards to my friend Lisa who runs one of my all-time favorite fashion websites (based here in Portland), Urban Weeds. Lisa has recently had some bad luck- poor girl just had both of her cameras break simultaneously. little winter.

Good afternoon! Let me tell you, I had a lovely weekend. Little Winter was such a beautiful and inspiring event. It was just so wonderful to get to meet artists and bloggers that I deeply admire and see their work in person. Abby and Chelsea did a truly amazing job with putting the entire event together. I felt grateful to be able to attend and help out- good job to everyone involved!

I brought two of my film cameras and couldn't stop snapping photos, some of which can be seen above. You can view other people's photographs, as well as my own (which I plan to keep adding throughout the next couple of days), in the Little Winter Flickr group. Enjoy!

...the little winter sale is the place to be this weekend. Put together by two the most inspiring ladies I know, Abby Powell Thompson and Chelsea Fuss, little winter features 20+ handmade artists from all over the place. And let me tell you, these artists are the best of the best and include some of my favorite creators: Nikole Herriott, Julianna Swaney, and Shanna Murray, to name a few.

so very excited...

for little winter, a handmade market being held in Portland this November. It is a collaboration between two extremely inspiring women whom I've had the pleasure of knowing personally, Chelsea Fuss and Abby Powell, and features work from a truly impressive group of artists- Shanna Murray, Nikole Herriott, Cori Kindred, just to name a few. If you were ever planning a time to go visit Portland, this would be a great time.

Pittsburgh Public Art Resources

The URA and the Office of Public Art have come up with a document to help with and promote contracting Pittsburgh artists for commissioning small and large scale works of art. As mentioned in the guide public art doesn't always need to mean sculptures but can also be 2 dimensional works of art to be displayed inside of buildings.

The Pittsburgh Office of Public Art has published a new document titled, “Add Value Add Art” The document billed as a, “public art resource guide for developers,” was produced at the request of Urban Redevelopment Authority which wanted to help promote public art in new developments around town.

The document can be found at the URA web site.

Powell's City of Books, 1005 West Burnside. By far the most impressive bookstore I have set foot inside. I can get lost there for hours. Photograph by unruly things.


Clyde Common, 1014 Southwest Stark Street. Truly amazing food, gorgeous staff, beautiful natural lighting, and the best hot toddy in town. Photograph by dejvicka.


Stumptown Coffee Roasters, located all over Portland. Seriously, there is no better coffee and this is right where it all started. You can smell the coffee roasting in the air of Portland, and the staff knows how to make my day start off right. Photograph by field trip studio.


Flutter, 3948 North Mississippi Avenue. This shop is like a huge treasure chest, filled to the brim with gorgeous antiquities, handmade dresses and jewelry, old-fashioned confections, and color galore. You cannot leave here with some sort of amazing find. Photograph by anja louise verdugo.


Broder Cafe, 2508 Southeast Clinton Street. Sure, you probably know by now that I am a deep lover of anything Scandinavian, but this cafe is just absolute perfection. Not only are their displays the sweetest (little cozies on individual cast iron skillets? Yes, please), but their Northern European food is as delicious as can be. Photograph by abbytrysagain.


Ace Hotel, 1022 Southwest Stark Street. I'm sure you have all heard of it, but it's quite true that the Ace Hotel just downright oozes "cool." From its masculine vintage design to its old-fashioned black & white photobooth, it's the place to either lodge at or just come and hang out inside at anytime of day. Photograph by Nubby Twiglet.

Sahagun, 10 Northwest 16th Avenue. Being a baker and intense lover of sweets, I have had plenty of chocolate in my day, so it should be taken to heart when I say that the extremely adorable Elizabeth of Sahagun makes the best chocolates I have ever tasted. Saint Cupcake, 407 Northwest 17th Avenue and 3300 Southeast Belmont. I can be a bit of a cupcake snob, but these bakers know their stuff. Classic cupcakes with some of the best cream cheese frosting I have tasted. And of course, pink decor. Photograph by girlhula.

I don't even think I realized just how many great spaces there are in this city, but I guess with so many creative people, it's just bound to happen. I have mentioned her many times on here before, but Abby Powell is hands-down one of my favorite photographers. That girl makes magic with her old broken Yashica film camera and has a look that is so uniquely hers. She is one of the most inspiring people I know here in Portland (and really just one of my favorite individuals), so I am quite sad to see her moving from here to Austin in just a few weeks. I must say though, I'm excited for her new adventure and to see new photographs in a completely different environment. But I will always treasure her Portland images, which really capture the beauty of this city (many which can be seen here.)

For the next week, Abby is having a moving sale in her shop, which will be closing afterwards until June 1st, so be sure to purchase some of her stunning prints for extremely affordable prices.

You will be missed, Abby!
