summer breeze

My mom and I are in Skien visiting family. Baby it's cold outside! But inside is like a summer breeze thanks to my grandmother's blazing fireplace. Above are some glimpses of summer at Åsly - a stark contrast to today's reality.

By the way, my meet up with this lovely family yesterday was absolutely wonderful! Unfortunately I forgot to take any photos - we had too much fun :-)

sodd

Sodd is a soup-like meal with meatballs, mutton and/or beef, potatoes and carrots. It's a traditional meal from the Trondheim area where my dad is from (and where I was born). It's typically served for big occasions like weddings, funerals and birthdays. I absolutely love it! Especially when my grandmother or aunt make it - like she did when we were all gathered at her house in July.

By the way, if all goes as planned, I'm meeting a certain someone who lives in Trondheim later today. I wonder if she loves sodd as much as me.

While we're on the topic of early season changes (snow in October that is), here are some shots from early summer in early June. A lazy Sunday walk in the arboretum at Milde. I remember that day as a lovely sun kissed taste of the season ahead. Well, time to snap back to reality, bundle up again and head home. At least it's not snowing anymore.

Summer greens in Trøndelag in July. As I walk along Store Lungegårdsvann on my way to the office these days, I pass through autumn yellows. Brian's words about the autumn color palette in London made me nod with recognition; Bergen too sees a lot of brown, green, yellow, black, tan and grey during autumn.

Skien

Skien is my mom's home town. We were there in late July for a family garden party (but because of the rain we stayed inside). I like that Ron Arad's Tom Vac chair is like a focal point in the city center. And I especially like that these chairs are situated outside the most excellent coffee shop, Stockfleths. Sølve and I stayed at (the pink) Høyers hotel which was quite ok.

Aker Brygge, Oslo

While I'm at it showing you film photos from places I visited this summer; here are some more shots from another visit to Oslo, in late July. Sølve and I walked from our hotel down to Aker Brygge to have dinner at Bølgen & Moi at Tjuvholmen. It was a lovely yet a little chilly summer evening.

Oslo

In addition to Trondheim I also stopped by Oslo a couple of times during summer. Here are some shots from a day in late June when I hung out with my ever stylish bestis and her baby son. The sign reads "Happiness is close! We have tarts with strawberries!" Although it sounds so much better in Norwegian because it rhymes. Bergen is really grey and wet today, so it feels good to revisit summer. By the way, these shots were taken the same day as these.

Trondheim

July memories from the area where my dad grew up: the view from the airport bus, art at the St Olav's hospital, beautiful Scandia chairs (by Hans Brattrud) at Nidaros cathedral visitor center, inside the stunning Nidaros cathedral, lunch in the sun with my family.
