Crafts N’At 2010: Paw-sitively Handmade, Paw-sitively Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Craft Collective (PCC) returns for a second year bringing together the best of handmade indie crafts and creative community force on Sunday, August 29, 2010. The event, “Crafts N’At” will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Soldiers and Sailors Hall, a National Register of Historic Places landmark in Pittsburgh. Crafts N’At showcases over 100 local artists and craftspeople. It will also feature local food and acoustic musicians.

Crafts N’At is a fundraiser for Animal Friends (http://www.thinkingoutsidethecage.org), a premier companion animal resource center committed to nurturing and promoting the animal-human bond. Emily Levenson, founding member of the Pittsburgh Craft Collective says, “Last year’s event drew in over 800 people and raised $1,800 for the Parkinson’s Foundation of Western PA. It was a very successful event thanks to community support.”

Hoping to draw awareness to help end overpopulation, abuse, and unwanted euthanasia of animals, the PCC partnered with Animal Friends planning a full day of events. Kelly Del Greco, founding member of the Pittsburgh Craft Collective says, “While you peruse the craft market, you can also witness live craft demonstrations, try your hand at something new at the Make-N-Take table, buy homemade food from local businesses, or shake paws with a new friend. “

Auction proceeds will go directly to the Animal Friends of Western Pennsylvania. As a pre-event to our show, we have planned an evening of celebration at Wildcard (http://wildcardpgh.com) in Lawrenceville from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010. Donations include handmade items from Crafts N’At vendors as well as a plethora of goods from local businesses and organizations.

The Pittsburgh Craft Collective was founded by five crafty business women in 2008. The group originally came together through a shared love for craft, DIY ethics, and mutual respect. The PCC is member funded craft coalition dedicated to provide creative resources to local crafters, offers monthly classes, and hosts social networking happy hours throughout the Steel City. With over 60 members, we are constantly evolving and growing (http://www.pghcraftcollective.com).

Crafts N’At takes place on Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Soliders and Sailors Hall, at 4141 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15203. The Crafts N’At Pre-party auction event takes place on Friday, August 27, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Wildcard, at 4209 Butler Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201. The Pittsburgh Art Blog features selected pittsburgh artists and upcoming exhibits with photos from the artists and galleries. since the major press outlets do not go beyond a directory listing of exhibits, blogs are needed to promote pittsburgh artists and their work. the blog also calls attention to the inferiority complex of pittsburgh art and how it's perpetuated by the major players in town. Started on August 20, 2007.pittsburgh area galleries and art venues are listed at the sister site www.PghGalleries.com.the blog and website are volunteer projects from fine art photographer and pittsburgh art advocate rick byerly, www.RickByerly.com.
