D.C. Gay Marriage
Same sex marriage is legal in Washington, D.C. as of today. It was only fair because members of Congress have been screwing the rest of the country regardless of sex for centuries.
Bad Food Costs
A new report says food-borne illnesses cost the U.S. $152 billion a year... and they would cost a lot more if Taco Bell charged more than 99 cents for a burrito.
SF Layoffs
San Franciso is laying off 15,000 city workers, but will then hire most of them back to work fewer hours... which is kind of like dating your ex-wife.
Ban Japanese Cars?
Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns wants to ban all Japanese car imports... not because of the Toyota recall, but because he can't find one decent sushi place in Omaha.
Nissan Recall
Nissan is recalling 540,000 cars because of a fuel gauge problem. Apparently drivers hate how it keeps reminding them they have to fill up at $2.70 a gallon.
March 3rd
1849: The United States Department of the Interior is established, but the first Department of Interior designers isn't established until 1969 in San Francisco.
1861: Tsar Alexander II of Russia signs the Emancipation Manifesto, freeing the serfs. He then immediately drafts the serfs into the army.
1873: Congress enacts the Comstock Law, making it illegal to send any "obscene, lewd, or lascivious" books through the mail. Thus, most of that material remains under boys' mattresses through 1987.
1875: The first ever organized indoor game of ice hockey is played in Montreal, Canada. It's also the first ever documented case of someone using the word "hoser."
2005: Steve Fossett becomes the first person to fly an airplane non-stop around the world solo without refueling. But he is unable to celebrate because he was also the first to do so without peeing.
